A tripedal repto-avian native to the central plains of Castia, Cerala, Sylval, and the edges of Moss now bred and raised transcontinentally due to their hardy nature and many ecological and agricultural benefits. Both female and male ji reach between 3-5 feet at maturity and weigh in at between 45-70 pounds. Female ji possess stronger wings and the capability for short duration flight. Males, on the other hand, have evolved to make up for their groundedness with the development of dozens of extremely sharp, long needle-like claws protruding from their paws and wide-hinging mouths.

While ji are commonly raised and butchered across the Empires, where their meat constitutes a cheap, nutritious, and tasty staple protein, many farms also raise ji as non-meat livestock, harvesting their eggs and excess feathers for consumption. Because ji are notoriously violent, protective, and loyal, these farms, often located in remote and/or impoverished regions, utilize these flocks as both means of production and protection.

Despite their tempers, and though no ji has ever been considered anything close to cuddly, ji are capable of developing mutually beneficial and thus friendly relationships with humans. However, because of their temperments, it has long been a question of the biological sciences how intelligent ji are for it is near-impossible to tell if they are objectively of low intelligence, or simply too obstinate to demonstrate intelligence when observed. As such, a proverb in the Annals of Toverah famously says:

"To the ji belong all the secrets of the universe or none at all, and so it is none."
